Benefits of reciprocal peer supervision

Improved practice is the over-arching benefit of peer supervision. In particular, the benefits of personal supervision include:

  • Heighten your self-awareness as a coach

  • Gain a stronger coach-client relational awareness

  • Develop a deeper awareness of the bigger picture of coaching

  • Become aware of how your own personal triggers arise while you're coaching

  • Offload and still maintain confidentiality

  • Understand what's happening (and not happening) in your coaching practice

  • Differentiate between theory and practice

  • Discuss and address challenging client issues

  • Notice the patterns and recurring themes for you as a coach

  • Engage in your own reflective learning

  • Explore the things that puzzle, surprise and challenge you as a coach

Personal supervision is a personal exploration of your coaching process. On the other hand, group supervision provides a collaborative exploration of coaching process that you and other members of your group are experiencing.

While the benefits of group supervision are similar to those of personal supervision, despite not as personally specific, group supervision gives you these added benefits:

  • Swap knowledge, experiences and resources with members of your group

  • Feel the solidarity of knowing that others are having similar experiences

  • Disperse the isolation that can come from working as a coach

  • Feel stretched professionally

  • Engage in a riveting one hour group teleconference with coaches from all over the world
